The AlopeciaBoy Network
Living Life Alopecian Style!
Naomi - October 2002
I first heard from Naomi over a year ago when her mom found my website over the internet. I remember I even sent her some leaves for a school project she had been working on, and I had posted over the MSN group that we should all get involved and help her out. She got an excellent grade from her teacher!
Naomi was the first young person I'd gotten to meet, with alopecia. Her mom, Cindy, first got in touch with me and after speaking with each other online a while, she introduced me to Naomi and I thought she was so cool - at one point she got a little fed up with her hair problems and asked her mom to just shave it all off. I thought that was the coolest thing in the world when Cindy told me that afternoon!
Naomi isn't let dwn by her alopecia - she's as active as ever in her community, in her school activities and in her leisure time she's even been known to show up on the local Jumbotron! She's very cool!
Heather - September 2002
The first honor of Alopecian of the Month went to Heather, who found me online and showed me a group she'd started on MSN, the Alopecia Areata Support Community (many of you are members and familiar with the group). Back then, the group was just beginning but there were already over 30 people by the time I got in. Heather wanted me to help field some of the questions, and she always had really great things to say, encouraging people to introduce themselves, share their worries and start trading information and tips.
With around two thousand people today, her group has become one of the largest online alopecian communities with members from almost every nation and background on this planet. I am very greatful for having met Heather. She's a great inspiration for alopecians everywhere.
The Groovy Alopecians of the Month Awards!

Some day, I think it'd be really great to host an awards ceremony of some sort for ourselves.
We're Alopecian! We should be Proud of who we are! I'd be MORE than happy to host an Alopecia Awards ceremony or show. That would rock!
Cheryl & Louise - December 2002
I hadn't had time to do an update for November, so December I decided to honor the two founding members of the Montreal area Alopecia Support Group together. For just over 10 years they've been attending conferences and holding support meetings at the Montreal Children's Hospital in Montreal, giving support to people with alopecia. A great place to relax, take off the wigs and share concerns and information, as well as meeting up to make plans for each successive Conference. They put a lot of effort and spare time in addressing issues and now circulate monthly brochures to help raise awareness, I was overjoyed to finally get to meet other alopecians in person instead of over the internet! They are both really great people to meet and I always look forward to the meetings (though I've missed a few).
A heartfelt thanks and my vote of appreciation to them both!
John - February 2003
John has been a member of Heather's Alopecia Areata Suport Community MSN Group almost since the beginning. He's devoted many Sunday mornings to moderating the chats - even if he was alone on some mornings. His presence there served to make available the forum for discussing not only alopecia, but everyone was able to talk about their week, their projects, their plans and birthday celebrations.
John is now a group moderator for the Carterville, Illinois  alopecia support group and has a website of his own for informing people of where the meetings are held.
It was my pleasure giving John two thumbs up for taking the time over the past couple of years hosting the Sunday morning chat sessions for our community!
Austin - May 2004
I thought for sure I had put a picture of Austin on the website before - but here he is - a very cool young alopecian with a very cool parent - Paula!! Austin had sent me a photo of him fishing, but I can't find it right now, but here Austin has a very cool photo of his head painted with a smile!! Now how cool and groovy is that!! He is a very cool and groovy alopecian!
