Time to Treasure
How much time do we save not having to comb or brush hair each morning? How much time do we save not having to condition or shampoo hair, or spend getting our hair done in a salon? How much money do we save in a year not having to buy those types of products?
That's the money and spare time we can spend on good skin care products and new cleansing routines. That's extra money we can put elsewhere and budget for other life projects.
Begin with Good Products
We can afford to splurge that much more for our basic body washing supplies and purchase products we might normally have looked over for sake of a budget. Feel free to really look at the products that are available now. Sponges, skin brushes, bath oils, body powders, maybe even bath milks and salts. These are all products that we can afford now that we don't have to spend the extr money on shampoos, conditioners, razors, gels, combs, brushes and sprays.
Great products to consider are a loofah sponge or a medium density bristle scrub brush. These will help slough off dead skin cells and promote healthy revitilization of the dermis.
Mmmmm Soaps!
Natural soaps are also another great product to look into. Look for soaps that have no added chemicals or preservatives, no alcohol content, perfumes or dyes. These chemicals just dry out your skin that much more, and when you towel off those smells and colors aren't going to stay with you any longer than your shower or bathing time.
Oatmeal or goat's milk soaps are interesting, affordable and natural products that feel good on the skin and don't leave unwanted residues when you dry yourself. They cost about the same as other soaps, sometimes less. WalMart has some, if you're interested. Try specialty shops as well such as The Body Shop - one of my favourite places to get bath accessories and soaps (they make cool gifts too) and almost all their of products are 100% natural.
Don't forget to purchase some good body scrubs and facial exfoliants as well. Our skin will love us more if we can keep it glowing with health!
Shower or Bathe?
People talk against wether or not one should bathe their body or shower. Some people hate baths because they feel like a cube of beef in a soup. Others hate showers because they don't feel as relaxing as a good soak in a warm tub. I say, to each his or her own.
Personally, I shower because I don't personally like being dirty and soaking in the water. If I shower to get clean and THEN bathe to relax myself, then that's another story. That becomes more of a spa experience. Some people enjoy bathing and then showering afterwards to rinse themselves of unwanted residues. Both have their merits; it's your choice. But enjoy the time you spend cleaning! it should relax you, not stress you out.
Toweling Off
One important thing to remember is the way you towel dry yourself. If you have access to luxury, I recommend purchasing a home air dry system for your bathroom - that way you don't need towels - you just stand under a breath of warm air and wait for the water to leave.
But one important issue for us regular folk is to make sure you aren't scrubbing yourself too vigourously after washing. This dries out your skin and irritates your pores if you scrub too hard. The best way is to buff yourself lightly, or to blot the water off your skin. the best actually, is to let your body drip naturally and then wipe away the excess. This gives your body time to relax more, the moisture soaks into your skin and helps hydrate the dermis. Plus, we all spend too much time in our clothes day in and day out - it's nice to stand around in the buff once in a while and enjoy our natural state!
So have fun! Take a look around and maybe even take the time to look at your bathroom and start a makeover project of your own! Change is good. And so is taking care of our skin. Enjoy your new ritual!
