Ken found a really cool cowboy hat on his way home and thought it would be an excellent way to cover his bald spots. That way Ken's friends wouldn't see Ken losing his hair!

Ken bought baseball caps and cowboy hats, Ken bought wool caps and Ken even got some beanie caps! There are a lot of hats if you want to buy hats!

But under those hats Ken was always worried that someone would see Ken's spots, so Ken painted them over with eyeliner or mascara. Ken was shy at first, a boy buying makeup in a pharmacy, but after a while he didn't care -- what was important to Ken was making sure people didn't see his bald spots.

Ken went to the pharmacy and bought eyeliners and mascaras, testing out the colors on his hand to see if it matched his hair color, and then went home to cover his hairless parts in front of the bathroom mirror. It was tricky at first, but he soon got the hang of it.
Ken also began taking a drug called Rogaine to help bring his hair back. Ken's doctor had told him there were not very many choices in drugs because scientists didn't know too much about what made people's hair fall out yet. His dermatologist thought maybe his body was fighting off the hair follicles, that he was losing his hair because of stress or that his immune system was in high gear looking for something to attack, and in his case it was attacking hair producing cells.

If the Rogaine didn't work then the doctor would try something else called corticosteroid injections, which are painful. If that didn't work then maybe they could try some pills after that, but it would take some time before his hair might start to grow, if they did at all. Most hair cures don't always work.

So Ken wore his hats and covered his patches and still didn't tell any of his friends about his hair!
